I've been living in GZ for the past 4 years + and I still haven't really explored that part of the town just as you cross over to Hong Kong. So, me and my good friend decided to check Shenzhen out and booked an accommodation (thanks to Travellerspoint) a few days before the New Year Weekend. There's always a good story when one is travelling and here's a few of mine...
Plan was to go see the famous 'Window Of the World'. Phewww... Dunno why we could not get that name right at one time. We had to pause to 'think' to get it right. My friend would just call it 'The Window'. It gets funny and interesting when it's left 'hanging'. Then sometimes it just comes out as 'Window TO the World' or 'World Of The Window' and then WOW! :D We opted for the 50rmb night ticket since we got there pretty late in the afternoon. The gate opened at 730pm. We took the Tram to see all over the place then hunted those that we wanted to see when we we're on the Ground. Then of course waited out for the Fireworks display.
Day 2 we saw a guy at the Subway writing something down in Chinese on the floor with a chalk. My friend said that he was 'asking' for 6rmb for bus fare to go home. It was weird coz he didn't look like a beggar or anything close to a beggar. We we're like duhhh....why don't he just call his friends or fam or something. The next day we we're running low on cash. My friend forgot her card in GZ. My cards we're International Cards works fine in GZ but for some reason it didn't in SZ.
So then we we're like ooooh maybe we should get chalk and head out to the Metro and do our own begging ourselves. It was ironic :D So we decided to cut our vacation shorter than planned, got our 200rmb deposit from the hotel and used that to bail out of SZ back to GZ
All's good still. So Happy New Year!
